Germany has won two gold medals in fencing at the Beijing Olympics. Benjamin Kleibrink won the men's foil final while Britta Heidemann was victorious in women's epйe.
This gives Germany a total of six gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. This came on a day that also saw American swimmer Michael Phelps become the most successful Olympic athlete in history. He won another two races, taking his career total to an unequalled 11 Olympic gold medals. Phelps set new world records in the 200-metre butterfly and the 4x200-metre freestyle team relay.
