An Israeli newspaper has reported that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has offered the Palestinians a peace plan giving them 93 percent of the occupied West Bank.
The Haaretz newspaper said the proposal offers the Palestinians land in the southern Israeli Negev desert as compensation for the territory that Israel wants to annex. The area would be slightly less than the seven percent of the West Bank that Israel wants to accommodate its major settlement blocks. The paper quoted a senior Israeli official as saying the plan also included proposals on the Palestinian refugee problem and security, but sidelined the Israel-Hezbollah prisoner swap set ...
Israel reopens Gaza border crossings ... issue of Jerusalem, a solution to which Olmert has said he wants to postpone. The proposal has been made in the context of US-backed peace talks relaunched in November.
