Celebs, Aliens Party at Europe's Largest AIDS Charity ... Mexico City the 2008 International AIDS Conference has opened with an expected turnout of some 22,000 scientists, delegates and policymakers.
It is the first international AIDS conference to take place in Latin America. Several thousand activists took part in a march on Saturday to protest against AIDS discrimination that is widespread in the continent. UN chief Ban Ki-moon is scheduled to address the conference as well as former US president Bill Clinton who has been a key figure in the campaign to slash the price of anti-HIV drugs to developing countries. It is estimated that about 33 million people have the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, worldwide.
