Foreign Minister for the Greens Karel Schwarzenberg is also a senator. He was elected for the Freedom Union(US-DEU)/Civic Democratic Alliance (ODA) and now he is independent. Kocab was one of the main protagonists of the Velvet Revolution in November 1089 that toppled the communist regime. He helped establish the Civic Forum (OF), an umbrella anti-communist organisation. Kocab was a deputy for OF in the Federal Assembly, then Czechoslovak parliament, for almost two years. He chaired the parliamentary commission supervising the departure of Soviet troops from the country. After he fulfilled this task in 1991, he gave up his deputy mandate. When Vaclav Havel was re-elected president in 1993, Kocab worked as his external adviser. Moreover, he composed festive fanfares for the changing of guards at Prague Castle, the presidential seat.
