Three-fourths of Czechs are of the view that Czechs do not have equal chances. The poll was conducted on a sample of 1244 people over 18. About 45 percent of the people with higher incomes consider the Czech Republic a "society of equal opportunities." Of those with average incomes, the view is shared by one-third and of the disadvantaged a mere eight percent. The view that some groups enjoy unfair advantages tends to be held by the people with low incomes, pensioners and leftist voters. The opposite view is held by the voters of the opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) and the Communists (KSCM). The view that society gives enough opportunities for individuals is espoused by 61 percent of Czechs, mainly those with higher education, professionals and affluent people. Some 34 percent of Czechs consider society quite unfair. Another 36 percent believe that hard-working and clever people have a chance to succeed even in the unfair society. Only eight percent of Czechs consider Czech society quite fair.
