The governor of the US state of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has cut 22,000 part-time and temporary government jobs in a bid to combat a multi-billion-dollar deficit.
He has also ordered that 200,000 state workers receive the federal minimum wage until the state budget for 2008-2009 is approved.
