He explained his decision by the fact that during the election of the new Czech president in February Paroubek blackmailed him. He said Paroubek threatened to make public the information on alleged irregularities connected with the drawing of a state subsidy by Wolf's UT 2002 company if Wolf did not support liberal economist Jan Svejnar, the CSSD presidential candidate. Paroubek has emphatically dismissed the allegation. However, today he admitted that he had known about Wolf's difficulties since last December when his assistant allegedly informed CSSD shadow environment minister Petr Petrzilek about them. Wolf's company received a 4.6-million-crowns subsidy from the Environment Ministry for a study on the economic development and environmental protection. According to the Supreme Audit Office (NKU), the company misused 1.1 million crowns from the subsidy. However, an Environment Ministry's audit stated that it was almost 2 millions. Wolf has rejected the allegations branding them as lies and false accusations. He said he would consider filing a criminal complaint. The Financial Office in Ostrava, north Moravia, is now determining how much from the 4.6-million-crown subsidy Wolf should return. "I dismiss the notion that I have abused any state subsidies for any private purposes," Wolf said previously. Paroubek said today Wolf should apologise to the CSSD because he said that the party informed the media about his difficulties. The NKU's report is available to the public on the Internet, Paroubek said, adding that Wolf should apologise to him publicly. Wolf has been the fourth CSSD deputy to have left the party since it had gone into the opposition after the 2006 elections. (USD1=15.077 Czech crowns)
